Fiona Mackillop is a Specialist in Periodontics with a strong clinical focus on complex implant treatments and advanced regenerative techniques. In 1998 she was invited to take the post of Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgical Sciences (Periodontics) at New York University. During this period she became interested in bone and soft tissue regeneration and augmentation techniques and joined the American Academy of Periodontology. She is particularly sought after for her expertise in preserving natural teeth, managing advanced gum disease, and preparing challenging sites for dental implants—often for patients who have been told they are not candidates for treatment elsewhere.
Over the last decade, Fiona has become a key member of the implant team at Dawood & Tanner, working closely with restorative specialists, hygienists, and referring practitioners to deliver precisely planned, natural-looking results. Her work supports both aesthetic and functional outcomes, often using soft tissue grafting and bone regeneration techniques to create stable foundations for long-term success.
Fiona has treated many patients who have been referred to her with issues related to peri-implantitis and has been an advocate of preventative care to protect patients with dental implants. Her wide breadth of knowledge ensures success when treating patients with advanced periodontal problems.
Fiona’s treatment philosophy centres on minimally invasive care, long-term maintenance, and building trust with patients who may feel anxious or uncertain about specialist treatment. She leads the periodontal service with a gentle, evidence-led approach, making her a valued partner to both colleagues and patients alike.
