Brighten your smile

Teeth Whitening - safely done

Tooth whitening is the most conservative and cost-effective way of improving the appearance of your smile in a very short period of time. We always ensure that the health of your teeth is maintained by using the safest and most powerful method for whitening your teeth, whether you choose our at home method, or our in surgery method.

The last decade has seen a big increase in non-professional teeth whitening being offered in high street beauty salons and spas, as well as whitening devices you can purchase online.

Your teeth are an important part of the system of your mouth. Anyone other than a General Dental Council (GDC) registered professional performing a treatment that affects the teeth is not only breaking the law, they are also potentially causing irreversible damage to your teeth that may cost you a great deal to repair.

Before we undertake teeth whitening, it is important that you have seen a dentist for a checkup within 2 years to ensure your teeth are in good condition and that teeth whitening is appropriate for you.

Both techniques use our comfortable custom laboratory made whitening trays to help keep the whitening gel in close contact with  the teeth and not leak out and irritate the gums. The gels that we use also have the clever addition of an anti-sensitivity component which helps prevent the occurrence of sensitivity.

Most patients may require a brief top up once a year, depending on their habits, but a full course of whitening is more likely after approximately 18 months.

Our Whitening Options

We offer both in-surgery light-enhanced and home whitening.

Your Hygienist or Therapist will advise you on which whitening system would be best for you, and discuss the degree of whitening you wish to achieve.

In Surgery

Light-enhanced whitening is a two-hour appointment to 'kick-start' the process, and customised home trays are included to achieve and maintain the final shade choice.

At Home

Home whitening provides customised trays made on moulds of your teeth for you to whiten at home; easy to use and with great results.

Precautions before whitening

For some patients whitening may not be appropriate if they have a lot of tooth wear – where the enamel of the teeth has been worn down leaving only the darker yellow looking dentine visible. Whitening will not work and can cause acute pain and sensitivity for the patient.

White Spot Treatment

Some of our patients have had white spots on their teeth, caused by tetracyclines or after having braces removed, that we can easily treat to reduce their appearance.

We use Microabrasion to remove superficial white spots (particularly those caused by Fluorosis) a technique of polishing the superficial enamel with acid and pumice can be used. This provides a conservative, immediate improvement in the appearance of the dentition.
