Shu Ker has dedicated the past seven years of postgraduate training and specialist clinical practice to the management of gum disease, gum recession, and peri-implant conditions, with a strong emphasis on preventive care and long-term tooth preservation. Her work is centred on helping patients maintain healthy teeth and implants for as long as possible through careful diagnosis, minimally invasive treatment, and tailored maintenance strategies.
After qualifying from King’s College London, Shu completed specialist training with honours at the internationally renowned Eastman Dental Institute, later gaining Membership in Periodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
A key area of Shu’s interest is the relationship between oral health and wider systemic wellbeing. Her postgraduate thesis contributed to the growing body of evidence exploring the links between periodontal disease, preterm birth, and low birth weight, reflecting her belief that gum health plays an important role in overall health outcomes. This holistic perspective continues to influence her clinical approach today.
Alongside her work at Dawood & Tanner, Shu is a Specialty Dentist at the Eastman Dental Hospital, where she treats patients with advanced periodontal disease and complex medical backgrounds. She is also actively involved in postgraduate education, teaching and supervising clinicians undertaking specialist periodontal training.
Clinically, Shu is particularly passionate about helping patients understand the causes of gum disease and empowering them to maintain stable oral health long term. Her careful, prevention-focused approach underpins all aspects of her treatment, from managing advanced periodontitis to maintaining the health of dental implants and treating gum recession.
