The first few years of a child’s life shape many of the habits and routines that stay with them as they grow. Dental care is no different.
When children become familiar with visiting the dentist from an early age, appointments can start to feel normal, reassuring and positive rather than unfamiliar or frightening. Early visits also give parents the opportunity to receive practical advice on caring for young teeth at home.
Through this initiative, we hope to encourage more families to start early and help children build confidence with dental care from the very beginning.
Why Baby Teeth Matter

Primary teeth are sometimes thought of as temporary, but they play an important role in a child’s development. They help children eat and chew properly, support speech development, and hold space for the permanent teeth that will follow.
Regular dental health check-ups allow us to monitor how a child’s teeth and jaws are developing, identify any early concerns, and support parents with clear, practical advice.
Good habits established in childhood often continue into adulthood, which is why a positive first dental experience can make such a difference.

Helping Children Feel Comfortable
For many parents, the concern is not only about their child’s teeth, but about how the appointment will feel. Will their child be nervous? Will the visit feel rushed? Will they understand what is happening?
At Dawood & Tanner, we take time to create a calm and reassuring experience. We explain things gently, move at the child’s pace, and aim to make the visit feel positive and manageable.
For some children, the first visit may be as simple as becoming familiar with the surgery, meeting the dental team and, where they are happy to do so, having a little ride in the dental chair. These small moments can make a big difference, helping children feel more relaxed and confident about dental care.
A child’s early impression of visiting the dentist matters, and we want that first experience to feel safe, friendly and encouraging.
Complimentary Check-Ups for Children Under 5

As part of this promotion, children under 5 can receive a complimentary private dental health check-up when accompanied by a full paying adult attending for a private dental health check-up.
This promotion is currently available with Dr Begoña Martí, subject to availability.
The child’s appointment may include:
- A dental health assessment
- Advice on brushing and caring for young teeth
Guidance for parents on diet, prevention and oral hygiene - Any additional investigations or preventive treatments, such as x-rays or fluoride, will only be recommended where clinically appropriate and with parental consent.
Our aim is for this to be the beginning of a positive relationship with dental care, not just a one-off appointment.

A Thorough Assessment Matters
There is a meaningful difference between a quick look and a thorough dental health assessment.
During a child’s check-up, we look carefully at dental development, gum health, bite and any early signs that may need monitoring. We also give parents advice that is specific to their child, rather than relying on general guidance alone.
Dawood & Tanner has provided private dental care in Central London for many years. We believe every patient, at every age, deserves thoughtful, attentive care — including children attending for their very first dental visit.
