Straightening your teeth

Braces to treat all ages and concerns.

Orthodontic treatment (braces) to straighten your teeth, improve your smile and your dental health may be considered at any age – more than half of our patients are adults.

We consider Orthodontics to be both a science and an art that involves not only the alignment of crooked or spaced teeth, but also improving your bite and dental health.

Treatment is tailored to each patient to address their individual situation and expectations. We will help you choose the correct brace system which is most suited to you and your life style.

We pride ourselves in offering our patients personalised treatment that is suited to and planned for their needs, lifestyle, and expectations.

We also routinely use:

  • Fixed braces (e.g. Damon system)
  • Discreet fixed braces (e.g. Incognito Lingual braces)
  • Invisible removable braces (e.g. Invisalign)
  • Removable Braces (plastic with wire clips)
  • Functional Braces (for growth modification)

Braces for Children

As your child grows and develops, their teeth may need orthodontic treatment for a lovely smile that builds confidence. Our specialist orthodontist will help with the assessment of your child as their face and jaws grow, and dentition develops.

There is no set age for an orthodontic consultation, but usually you will be referred at an appropriate stage by one of our experienced Specialist Paediatric dentists, or by your general dental practitioner. You are always welcome to book an appointment to discuss your concerns.

  • overcrowding
  • protruding teeth
  • gaps between teeth
  • lack of space for developing teeth
  • extra teeth
  • too few teeth
  • early loss of teeth due to trauma
  • dental decay
  • poor biting relationships between the teeth and jaws

The age at which we treat our patients is specific to each and every young patient, and takes into account their growth and development. We also advise on breaking bad dental habits such as thumb/finger sucking and nail biting, as well as introducing the use of a protective sports guard for all contact sports. The type of braces is also highly individual; you do not always have to wait for all of the adult teeth to appear before starting treatment!

It is extremely important that your child continues to see the hygienist regularly while undergoing any orthodontic treatment.

Both these children were treated using a set of fixed braces and Invisalign respectively.

Here we have an adult patient who always wanted to have straight teeth. This was arranged using a discreet brace, and without any dental extractions. She was delighted with the results and smiles with confidence.

Braces for Adults

Though often thought of as a treatment for younger patients, orthodontics can actually be considered at any stage in your life. More than half of our patients are adults, and we routinely treat older patients, including those in their 60’s and 70’s.

At your consultation appointment we will demonstrate various alternatives and will help to guide you with your choice. We commonly use Damon, Incognito, and Invisalign – and explain each system and its own strengths and weaknesses.  We will always endeavor to choose what is right for you, and sometimes combining systems for the best and most efficient outcome.

Your treatment will be planned in detail using digital photography, detailed moulds and specialised x-rays as well as 3D Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) scans, where appropriate. We also have in-house facilities to visualise in 3D the probable outcome of your treatment prior to commencement.

Multi-Disciplinary Braces

In certain cases, patients may have severe dental problems that require a collaborative treatment with orthodontics to prepare the teeth for bridges or dental implants.

We may use orthodontics to establish space for a missing tooth prior to a bridge or implant treatment, or to improve the arrangement of teeth after carrying out treatment for patients with advanced gum disease.

This is made all the more straightforward by the fact that we have specialists in all dental disciplines under one roof.

This patient was at the end of her orthodontic treatment undertaken elsewhere. The outcome was not as expected and she presented wanting to investigate other treatment options to improve her smile. In her case, a set of braces was used to align the teeth and adequate space created for a dental implant and restoration.

Please note, we’re happy to give second opinions and advice, but would usually refer you back. If need be can collaborate or arrange any necessary treatment.
